Photo Restoration Services
Overview, and One Example

Stuff happens... it's a fact.

In the life of a photographic print, the stuff that happens can include rips, folds,
wear, burns, pet attack, water damage... you name it.  Even simple aging, which
brings fading and discoloration.  If the print in question is valuable to you -- your
only picture of your grandmother's wedding, or that great shot of your son holding
his new baby sister for the first time -- then the stuff that life dishes out can be bad
news indeed.

But there's good news, too: most damage to photographs can be lessened, or
even completely repaired.

Photographic restoration (as I practice the art, at any rate) is always done on a
reproduced version of the original print.  Your valuable original is only used to
provide a high-resolution digital scan, then is returned to you unchanged.  The
magic takes place on the computer, working from my scan.  The restored image
can then be reprinted as many times as desired.
Here is one recent adventure in photo
restoration.  The little girl in the image
below is all grown up now.  She
brought me this photo because she
was redecorationg her home, and
wanted to make a small gallery of
family portraits.

Trouble was, this was the
only picture
she had of herself and her mother
together.  As you can see, it's been
through a lot of life's stuff.
I was able to digitally retouch
this image to remove the
damage, enlarge it, and convert
it to a sepia-toned B&W image,
which is now hanging in the new
family gallery.  It was a
satisfying experience, all around.
